很多人都认为，老年人才是青光眼发病的高危人群。实际上，随着手机、电脑、iPad等电子设备的普及，年轻人患青光眼的人数日益增多。

除了可致盲外，青光眼的危害还表现在其早期症状的不明显，患者发现时常常已是中晚期。中晚期发现时，视神经萎缩已很严重。药物、手术治疗仅仅是减缓或者停止视神经进一步萎缩，因此只能尽量保持患者当时的视力，缓解患者眼部疼痛。
